One in twenty suffers from colorectal cancer in the US and kills more than 50,000 US people, said the American Cancer Society. Then also German researchers have concluded in their research that people do not need to undergo colonoscopy after every 10th year, which is written in the US Preventive Services Task Force guidelines.
In other way, a German study has challenged the US guidelines which states that when a person reaches at the age of 50, he should get tested himself for colorectal cancer which costs about 3000 dollars and has to be repeated for once after 10 years. This method is said to cut the risk factor for colorectal cancer.
German Cancer Research Center situated in Heidelberg conducted the research and was headed by Dr. Hermann Brenner with the help of his colleagues. They assessed 2,000 colorectal cancer patients and also followed 2,400 normal healthy people. They asked them questions about colonoscopy, that whether they know about it or not, and if yes, then had they ever screened by this method for colorectal cancer or not, and if yes again, then when.
After assessing them, they wrote their finding in the Clinical Oncology Journal, where they concluded that whether people who have never been tested and who have got tested and their reports have come negative, they have showed lower risk factor, and they do not need to get themselves tested for at least 20 years.
