The Belmont Shore Business Association is asking for donations to help support school marching bands and nonprofit organizations participate in this year?s Belmont Shore Christmas Parade.
Taking place on Dec. 1, the parade traditionally features more than a dozen middle and high school marching bands among more than 100 other parade entries and Santa Claus himself. Sponsors can pay a band?s entry fee with a $500 donation.
Local nonprofit organizations and school groups also are seeking sponsors to help them pay a $400 entry fee to participate in the parade, which is themed ?Go for the Gold? this year in honor of the city?s athletes who competed in the London Olympic Games.
Parade participants will be on the route with grand marshals Misty May-Treanor and Matt Treanor. May-Treanor is a three-time Olympic gold beach volleyball player and her husband plays baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers.?
During the parade, which starts at 6 p.m. on Second Street, sponsors are acknowledged in parade banners carried at the front of the sponsored entry. An estimated 50,000 to 60,000 parade spectators will see those banners being carried down Second Street.
