BlackBerry 10 to get video editor, screen sharing according to forum leak

Image

The Blackberry 10 Dev Alpha we wrapped our mitts around last week didn't tell us much about RIM's big QNX-based OS update (being loaded with PlayBook OS 2.0 and all), but Crackberry forum user Biggulpseh seemingly has the deets that the folks in Waterloo weren't ready to reveal. So-called internal documents reportedly detail a tilt-senstive lock screen that pushes notifications to the user based on the device's movement (called "cinnamon toast"), a screen-sharing ability to ramp up the productivity of video calls and a robust video editor resulting from RIM's acquisition of JayCut last year. Biggulpseh says the images come from a "trusted source," and are part of a document that outlines upcoming features for the benefit of the firm's employees. Ready to dive in and let your imagination run wild? Hit the source links below, just don't forget your saliferous spices.

Kristen Stewart Makes 'After Hours' Debut In 'The Yes/No Show'

'MTV First: Snow White & the Huntsman' debuts new clip and cast interview Tuesday night at 7:56 p.m. on MTV and MTV.com.

At a time when it seems like virtually every movie at the multiplex is based on a fairy tale, comic book or best-selling YA novel, "Snow White & the Huntsman" checks off all the boxes even if it's none of the above as well.

Confusing? Well, the cast is clearly borne of past successful franchises, namely Kristen Stewart (have you heard of her?) coming off of "Twilight" and Chris Hemsworth dropping his Thor hammer in favor of an ax this go-round. And of course the film is inspired by one of the most cherished fairy tales of our youth. But look more closely at "SWATH" (as fans have quickly taken to calling it) and the film clearly owes more to Tolkien than to Walt Disney. And I think that's why we're all excited for its June 1 release. I know that's the case for me. It doesn't hurt that Charlize Theron looks to be chewing some scenery in a fun way with a diabolical take on the evil queen (much more fetching than the one in the cartoon of my youth, as I recall).

Tuesday night (at 7:56 p.m. on MTV & MTV.com to be precise) we're debuting "MTV First: Snow White & the Huntsman." As usual, we'll be debuting a never-before-seen clip, and I'll be sitting down with the cast (Stewart, Hemsworth, Theron and Sam Claflin, who portrays the prince in the tale) for a 30-minute interview. We taped the special a little while back, which means I can share something fun and exciting with you: Kristen Stewart's very first participation in "After Hours." And what better franchise to start her off on than "The Yes/No Show"?

There's a lot more where that came from on the full show Tuesday night, including tons of insight into the filming, the actors' takes on their iconic characters, Chris and Kristen's weapons technique and a near-breakup fight between Kristen and me. It's all in good fun, and we're quite proud of it. And there's more exciting "SWATH" news to come as I'm headed out to England later this week to reunite with the entire cast, so as always, feel free to send your questions to me @JoshuaHorowitz with the #MTVSWATH.

A Second Look
I got a chance to see "Avengers" for the second time over the weekend, this time in good old 2-D (and I'd recommend seeing it this way, by the way). And by gosh, I might have enjoyed it more the second time around. I have a bunch of conflicting feelings about the movie. After my first viewing, I was pretty convinced that while I had a great time watching it, it's less satisfying to me than most of the previous films. If we're looking at the recent bevy of Marvel flicks, "Captain America" is my favorite, delivering the most full-bodied experience (i.e., it's got the cool stunts and humor but it's also got a great character arc at its core). But a funny thing happened as "Avengers" rolled the second time around: I let go of my hang-ups with the story (er, there isn't much of one) and I let myself fully geek out for two hours at what Joss Whedon and company expertly did: create the purest fanboy-friendly film ever made.

Check out everything we've got on "Snow White & the Huntsman."

Is Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' Video An Homage To 'NSYNC?

Addressing similarities to 'NSYNC's 'Girlfriend' clip, Bieber tells MTV News he's 'definitely' been influenced by Justin Timberlake.

It's easy to compare Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" video, which premiered Thursday on MTV, to 'NSYNC's "Girlfriend" clip from a decade earlier.

The concepts are quite similar: Both videos depict laid-back parking-lot parties that go from sun-drenched afternoons to moonlit evenings, filled with fancy cars, pretty girls and hip-hop-influenced dance breaks.

Back in 2001, 'NSYNC enlisted director Marc Klasfeld for their game-changing "Girlfriend" clip that helped launch them ahead in their career from tweeny idols to full-grown men. Now, as Bieber hopes to make the same leap into manhood, he said that despite having tons of respect for Justin Timberlake, he didn't realize there were similarities between his Director X-directed video and the boy band's clip.

After the "MTV First" premiere of "Boyfriend," MTV News' Sway Calloway asked Bieber whether he had seen the "Girlfriend" video: "I haven't seen it," he said. But, he admitted he's "definitely" been influenced by Timberlake. "He was young, and he did it, and he was really amazing and had such amazing music," Bieber shared. "I can't say that I would be upset when someone compares me to him."

But, this Justin notes that while there might be some similarities to that other Justin, he's hoping to put his own stamp on the music industry, adding, "I just feel like my music is going a completely different route, but ... hats go off to him."

As for the more grown-up version of Bieber fans are getting to glimpse in the clip, he shared that much like his Beliebers he's growing up and not afraid to express that. "I think it's super cool," he said. "I wanted to do something a little bit more mature."

Adam Yauch's Journey From Cancer Diagnosis To Rock Hall

Beastie Boys rapper kept his fans in the loop over the past three years since he was diagnosed.

Adam Yauch, one of the founding members of the pioneering hip-hop trio the Beastie Boys, died Friday (May 4) at the age of 47 following a long battle with throat cancer. Yauch's death has rattled the music world to its core, with tributes already pouring in from the likes of Justin Timberlake and Russell Simmons to fellow hip-hop pioneers Run-DMC.

Since his 2009 cancer diagnosis, Yauch has stayed away from the public eye, often communicating with concerned fans through email, but during a period of remission, the Grammy-winning rapper stepped forward with his bandmates to release what would be his final album with the Beastie Boys, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, and even won an MTV Video Music Award for his direction of the Beasties' "Make Some Noise" video.

Though he fought his battle with cancer privately, Yauch, a practicing Buddhist, always maintained a tight connection with the Beasties' fans and continued to work despite the difficult surgeries and treatments he faced. Below, we've taken a look back at the last few years of Yauch's life to showcase the one-of-a-kind music legend's perseverance in the face of such a difficult battle.

Remembering Adam Yauch with Beastie Boys' Essential Hits

July 20, 2009: Yauch announced in a video posted to BeastieBoys.com that he'd been diagnosed with cancer of the parotid gland, a salivary gland in the throat. "The reason we're here talking is because I have some pretty heavy news to say," Yauch said in the video. "About two months ago, I started feeling this little lump in my throat, like what you would feel if you have swollen glands or something like that, and so I didn't really think it was anything. ... They did tests, and I actually have a form of cancer in the gland that's over here, in the parotid gland, and it's also in the lymph node right in that area."

Yauch had surgery to remove the tumor and began radiation that same week. Due to his treatment, the Beastie Boys were forced to cancel their summer touring plans, including headlining gigs at the All Points West Festival and Lollapalooza, in addition to delaying the release of their album Hot Sauce Committee: Part One. The album was finally released in May 2011 under the title Hot Sauce Committee Part Two with a slightly altered track list.

August 5, 2009: In an email to subscribers of the Beastie Boys' newsletter with the subject line "What I did over my summer vacation," Yauch provided fans with an update on his treatment, writing, "So I'm about a week-and-a-half out of surgery now and rapidly recovering from it. ... My neck and jaw are still pretty stiff from the surgery, but it gets better every day. Had the stitches out this past Monday ... so things are moving along."

October 7, 2009: In another email to fans, Yauch wrote about his trip to Dharamsala, India, where he had traveled to see some Tibetan doctors and ended up attending a three-day seminar taught by Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. "I'm feeling healthy, strong and hopeful that I've beaten this thing, but of course time will tell," Yauch said in the letter.

March 9, 2010: Yauch attended the Independent Spirit Awards and told reporters that while his recovery had been difficult, he was ready to get back to work. "I feel better. It was touch-and-go there for a while, but I am finally getting my energy back," Yauch said. "It was really disappointing to have to hold the record and postpone the tour, but doctor's orders. We may or may not [release the album], depending on how my health is come September. We want to, but we have to play it by ear."

September 28, 2010: The Beastie Boys receive their first nomination to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

January 21, 2011: "Fight for Your Right Revisited," a short film directed by Yauch that picks up immediately after the events of the Beastie Boys' classic "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)" video, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. In the film, Elijah Wood plays Ad-Rock, Seth Rogen portrays Mike D and Danny McBride slips on Yauch's classic leather jacket to become MCA. "Revisited" begins with the Beasties crawling out of the trashed apartment while the original '87 tune plays in the background. They head down the stairs and immediately run into the parents of the kids whose party they crashed, played by Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci.

April 20, 2011: The video for "Make Some Noise," the lead single from the Beastie Boys' Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, debuted, marking the band's first new musical release since Yauch's cancer diagnosis. The clip was cut from Yauch's "Fight for your Right Revisited" short film.

May 3, 2011: Hot Sauce Committee Part Two hits stores nearly two years after the initial planned release of the project. It's still unclear which songs from the unreleased Part One made it onto the sequel. The album debuted at #2 on the Billboard albums chart.

July 20, 2011: "Make Some Noise" scores MTV Video Music Award nominations for Video of the Year and Best Direction for Yauch. The nominations brought the Beastie Boys' career total VMA noms to eight, which include a Video of the Year nod for the Beasties' 1994 Spike Jonze-directed classic "Sabotage."

August 28, 2011: Yauch wins the VMA for Best Direction for "Make Some Noise." The win is the third for the group, which previously scored a 1999 VMA for Best Hip-Hop Video for "Intergalactic" and the Video Vanguard Award in 1998.

December 17, 2011: It is announced that the Beastie Boys will officially be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

April 14, 2012: The Beastie Boys become the third hip-hop act inducted into the Rock Hall during a ceremony at the Cleveland, Ohio, museum. Though he was unable to attend the ceremony because he was receiving treatment for a recurrence of his cancer, his bandmates paid him a warm tribute and read a letter written by Yauch to the crowd. Fellow inductees the Red Hot Chili Peppers dedicated their performance at the ceremony to Yauch.

Tune in to MTV tonight at 8 p.m. for "Adam Yauch: Remembering a Beastie Boy," an hour-long special hosted by Sway celebrating the life and career of Adam "MCA" Yauch, including his biggest moments and remembrances from his friends and peers. The Choice Promo: New Fox Dating Show Hilariously Rips Off The Voice

Fox is coming out with a new program called The Choice ... which is basically The Voice, only it's a dating show instead of a singing competition.

Seriously. There are blind auditions, spinning chairs and so on.

"Four celebrities ... blind auditions ... spinning chairs ... but ... it's not what you think," teases a promo that aired during American Idol last night:

The format, in which people question and choose their dates without seeing them, also recalls The Dating Game, which began in the 1960s.

The differences are the obvious rip-offs of NBC's The Voice, and the fact that four celebrities will be the bachelors and bachelorettes involved.

Cat Deeley, host of Fox's So You Think You Can Dance, will host the new show. The participating celebrities have not yet been announced.

Fox's Mike Darnell tells EW of the new concept:

"There hasn't been a new [dating show] hit since The Bachelor, and there hasn't been an in-studio one that's worked since .he Dating Game,"

"I was thinking about how to do a blind-date show without using a wall or blindfolds, and the spinning chairs seemed like a great way to do it."

Darnell adds, coyly: "The Choice seems like an obvious title because you have to make a choice. I'm just now realizing it rhymes [with The Voice]!"

Sure, who would have put that together, right? The Choice will debut June 7, with the first of a total of six one-hour episodes this summer.

Does the Home screen need updating in iOS 6? [Poll]

We'll keep this one short but sweet -- Does the Home screen need updating in iOS 6? Rene laid out a lot of the pros and cons in his iOS 6 Home screen article a couple of days ago, and we discussed it in depth on the iPhone & iPad Live podcast last night. Hundreds of millions of users already know how to use the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad Home screen, and that's a huge barrier to change. Maybe not to geeks, but certainly to mainstream users.
