Dont Lick The Ferrets - Resolution Recap 5/52

Let me start this post by saying, in my defense, I have been ridiculously busy. ?I mean, crazy busy. ?I got it in my head that we needed to switch gears from hoarders to minimalists. ?We simply have too much stuff and our hands never touch a portion of it. ?Therefore, I started reorganizing our home.

In our kitchen, we have those cabinets you can put things on top of. ?Yeah. ?That?s awesome, except when it isn?t. ?It literally started feeling like stuff was leaning over the tops and threatening to crash in on top of you. ?I went through every drawer and cabinet and tossed crap away. ?The only thing on top of our cabinets is now our board games.

I went through the toys.

I went through the family room.

I went through the front closet and the pantry.

In all, I would say we have tossed out a good nine or ten (huge) bags of garbage and have three huge boxes to donate. ?And I?ve only gotten through the first level of our home.

I love how clear and uncluttered it all looks, but this takes a huge amount of time. ?HUGE.

Therefore, my resolutions have dipped a bit, but I?m more than okay with that. ?This was a priority and I am so happy with the results.

Daily Goals:

I have been drinking less coffee, more water and have only had three or four sodas all year. ?Quite a change from a daily diet soda addiction!

I actually enjoy having breakfast daily and have fallen in love with eggs all over again! ?Oh, and cereal. ?I love me a good cereal!

We?ve stayed on task with reading more, eating at the kitchen table and being more respectful, in general.

Weekly Goals:

I still haven?t done?anything?for the?T21 Traveling Afghan Project. ?Once my home is in order, I will be much more capable of sitting and hooking, as opposed to organizing and tossing crap out!

I have to get back into the habit of doing more projects with the kids. I miss them and I?m sure they do too!

I rocked two new recipes yesterday, so I?m on task there.

Walk? ?What walk?

I would consider organizing the house a complete ?me project?. ?It?s the thing I?ve most wanted to do for myself and our family. ?I would also consider it quite the relationship builder! ?When my house is in order, I am a much happier and laid back woman! ?This, obviously, makes me a happier and laid back wife.

Since I can?t really consider not ripping someone?s face off a Random Act of Kindness, I fail at that this week as well.

I have, however, kept up with my Resolution Recaps! ?I love seeing the posts with increasing numbers! ?I can stick with this for 52 weeks!

Monthly Goals:

Since it is the month?s end, let?s recap the month!

* Attend church. Epic fail

* Date my wife (twice per month.)?Score! ?We even had an overnight date (sans kids) this past weekend! ?At first, I felt guilty picking Em up and dumping her on someone else, but we dropped her off right before bedtime and picked her up shortly after she woke up, so I didn?t actually miss out on any quality time with her. ?Plus, we?re having a Mom and Em afternoon, so my guilt is assuaged!

* Read a book.?Fail. ?Did I mention how busy I?ve been with the house?

* Send Bubba a care package.?Check. ?Well, I don?t SEND them in the mail, but I SEND them with him. ?I already have a few ideas for his February box!

I guess two out of four isn?t bad! ?It gives me a bit of area to work towards! ?Onward?and upwards!

Vote: What's the worst movie of all time?

"Movie 43" earned some absolutely withering reviews from critics, and currently has a 4 percent positive rating from Rotten Tomatoes users.

Snarked Sheri Linden of the Los Angeles Times, "How many directors does it take to screw in a star-studded piece of aggressive stupidity and call it a movie? An even dozen, and there is no punch line."

And Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times wrote, ""Movie 43" is the 'Citizen Kane' of awful."

But does the star-studded, gross-out comedy make the list of worst films of all time? There's some pretty awful competition. Vote in our poll and tell us what you think on Facebook.

Jose Aldo holds onto belt and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira takes forgettable decision at UFC 156

Jose Aldo held onto his championship belt and Rashad Evans saw his plans to fight UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva evaporate at UFC 156 on Saturday night.

Aldo beat Frankie Edgar in a five-round decision, with the judges calling it 49-46, 49-46, 48-47 for Aldo.

Edgar's face was bloody after the first round. Though he was fast and aggressive, Aldo did a better job at landing leg kicks to slow down Edgar. He continued to use those leg kicks in the second round. A welt appeared on Edgar's leg, and Aldo pounced. He threw several kicks that wobbled Edgar or even made him fall to the ground.

As the fight wore on, Aldo slowed. He became more susceptible to Edgar's takedowns. Edgar landed more strikes. But late in the final round, Aldo came on strong. After the fight ended, both men's camps celebrated with them, anticipating the win.

Aldo's won came more than a year after his last fight. He's been on a dominant streak, with his last loss coming in 2005. Edgar's record belies his standing. His last three fights were losses, but they all came in title bouts.

Before Aldo and Edgar fought, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira beat Rashad Evans in boring fight. Nogueira gained an edge by holding off Evans' wrestling and landing more punches, but neither fighter looked impressive. The judges saw the card 29-28 on all three cards for Nogueira.

During pre-fight press, Evans spoke of wanting to fight Silva. The fight would be a cut down in weight, but he needed to get through Nogueira first. He failed not only to win, but to put on an exciting fight that would convinced UFC brass.

Mickelson misses chance for tour 36-hole record

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) ? Phil Mickelson made a mess of his final hole in the second round of the Phoenix Open, costing him another shot at history.

A day after his putt for a 59 curled 180 degrees and stay out, Lefty missed a chance to break the PGA Tour's 36-hole scoring record Friday when he finished with a double bogey.

"You always remember kind of the last hole, the last putt," Mickelson said. "But I think it's very possible that's going to help me because it's got me refocused, that I cannot ease up on a single shot. I've got to be really focused. These guys are going to make a lot of birdies and I've got to get after it and cannot make those kinds of mistakes."

Mickelson followed his opening 60 with a 65 to reach 17-under 125, a stroke off the tour record for the first two rounds of a tournament set by Pat Perez in the 2009 Bob Hope Classic and matched by David Toms at Colonial in 2011.

"Unfortunately, I made a double on the last hole and didn't finish the way I wanted to," Mickelson said. "But I think it's a good example of what can happen on this course. You can make a lot of birdies and eagles, make up a lot of ground, but there's a lot of water and trouble there that if you misstep you can easily make bogeys and double."

His drive on No. 18 bounced into the left-side water hazard and, after a penalty drop, he still had a chance to get up down for par and the record.

But he didn't get enough on his approach shot, with the ball landing on the green and rolling off the front edge. His chip got away from him a bit, running 7 feet past, and his bogey putt slid by to the left, leaving him with a share of the Phoenix Open 36-hole record set by Mark Calcavecchia in 2001.

"I hit a good shot, I thought," Mickelson said. "I tried to start it right down the middle and hold it into the wind. It just leaked a little bit left. I still thought it was up. ... Then I hit a poor wedge from there. But the tee shot I didn't think was going to be in the water at any point."

The double bogey left him four strokes ahead of Bill Haas and five in front of Keegan Bradley and Brandt Snedeker. Haas shot a 64, Bradley 63, and Snedeker 66.

Mickelson will play alongside Haas and Bradley in the third round.

"Bill and I have played on a Presidents Cup team, and Keegan and I have been partners in the Ryder Cup and had an incredibly emotional and fun experience together as partners," Mickelson said. "We're going to have a fun day tomorrow."

Mickelson, the winner at TPC Scottsdale in 1996 and 2005, parred the first six holes and played the next 11 in 8 under before the lapse on 18.

The 42-year-old former Arizona State star made a 4-foot birdie putt on the par-4 ninth ? the hole where he missed the putt for a 59 on Thursday ? and overpowered the par-5 15th for an eagle, hitting to 4 feet after a 358-yard drive.

"I felt really comfortable on the tee box, so I kind of let one go and caught a hold of it and ended up having 191 to the pin," Mickelson said. "It was only 186 to the front, and I hit a hard 8-iron. There was a little bit of helping wind."

After a par on the par-3 16th that drew boos from the rowdy fans on the stadium hole when his tee shot trickled into the fringe, he drove the green on the 344-yard 17th and two-putted from 70 feet ? leaving his eagle try a foot short ? for birdie.

Bradley also eagled the 15th, hitting a 350-yard drive and a 7-iron approach to 8 feet.

"I just smashed a driver down there," Bradley said. "I had been hitting 3-wood and I'm driving the ball so well that I just decided to rip driver down there."

He birdied the 16th, hitting to 5 feet.

"It reminds me of when I go to Fenway Park," Bradley said. "There's always like a murmur. ... It's really cool. I dig it. I wish there was more holes like that out here."

He birdied Nos. 5-8 on his back nine, holing putts of 10 15, 20 and 8 feet.

"It was such a relief to shoot a good number," Bradley said. "I've been playing so well this whole year and haven't made many putts. Today, the putts started to go in."

Haas began play on No. 10 and made the turn at 6-under 30.

"We all know the way the course is playing, if there's no wind on the weekend, you've just got to keep making birdies," Haas said.

Last year in the Northern Trust Open at Riviera, Haas beat Mickelson and Bradley with a 45-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff.

"It's just another day. It's moving day," Haas said. "Hopefully, I can move up the leaderboard and he (Mickelson) doesn't go too crazy."

DIVOTS: Jason Dufner, paired with Mickelson and Rickie Fowler, missed the cut by a stroke to end the tour's longest active streak at 22. Dufner shot 68-71, leaving Ian Poulter with the longest current streak at 16. Fowler also shot 68-71 to drop out. ... Mike Weir failed to advance a week after ending a streak of 17 missed cuts that dated to July 2001. He shot 69-73. ... Golf Channel will have "spotlight" coverage" of the 15th, 16th and 17th holes Saturday and Sunday, opposite the first two hours of NBC's regular broadcast. The sister networks will stagger commercial breaks. ... Masters champion Bubba Watson was 8 under after his second straight 67. He played through strep throat to tie for fourth in the season-opening Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, and withdrew last week in San Diego because of the flu. ... Defending champion Kyle Stanley shot a 71 to make the cut by a stroke at 4 under.

Chevron profit rises on refining gains, asset swap

(Reuters) - Chevron Corp posted a larger-than-expected rise in quarterly profit on Friday as its refining arm managed to improve earnings despite a fire that crippled the company's oldest refinery last August.

The second-largest U.S. oil producer said fourth-quarter net income rose to $7.2 billion, or $3.70 per share, from $5.1 billion, or $2.58 per share, a year earlier.

The results included a gain of $1.4 billion from a deal with Royal Dutch Shell Plc , announced in August, in which Shell swapped interests in two fields off Australia for Chevron's holdings in the Browse liquefied natural gas project in Australia.

Leaving out one-time items, Chevron earned $3.27 per share, topping analysts' average estimate of $3.03, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Shares of Chevron rose 0.4 percent to $115.64 in premarket trading.

Including the asset swap gain, earnings in the oil and gas production business rose 20 percent to $6.9 billion, and refining operations posted a profit of $925 million, compared with a loss of $61 million a year before.

Chief Executive John Watson said the company has now led the industry in earnings per barrel from oil and gas production for three years. "Our downstream businesses also delivered highly competitive earnings per barrel," he said in a statement.

Fourth-quarter upstream production was 2.67 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, up from 2.64 million bpd a year earlier.

Increasing output from the wellhead has been a struggle this year for Chevron and for Exxon Mobil Corp , Shell and ConocoPhillips . Shares of Conoco fell on Thursday after its production outlook disappointed investors.

Chevron is still trying to get its Richmond refinery in California recovered from the fire that damaged its crude unit, which is expected to be fixed this quarter. The state's workplace safety regulators slapped a record fine on Chevron on Wednesday in connection with the accident.

Clydesdale star of Super Bowl ad is newborn foal

BOONVILLE, Mo. (AP) ? For decades, Anheuser-Busch has used its famous Clydesdales in Super Bowl ads for Budweiser. The latest star is barely two weeks old.

A foal born Jan. 16 at Anheuser-Busch's Warm Springs Ranch near the mid-Missouri town of Boonville is featured in an ad that will appear in Sunday's game between the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers and AFC champion Baltimore Ravens.

The 60-second ad chronicles the bond a Clydesdale foal shares with his trainer. The foal was just a week old when the ad was filmed.

It marks the 23rd Super Bowl ad featuring the Clydesdales.

Budweiser recently launched its first-ever Twitter account, using the occasion to tweet the first photo of the newborn.
