Marlen Esparza was only 11 when she first stepped into a boxing gym, and it took her days to convince trainer Rudy Silva to allow her to participate in his group workouts. After watching her throw some sloppy but passionate punches at a bag and seeing what Rudy describes as a ?spark,? he allowed her to join his sessions with advanced boys. But that spark doesn?t mean Rudy welcomed her with open arms. ?I tried to push her really, really hard,? recalled Rudy during a recent interview at Nike ?s campus in Oregon. ?I would push the groups really hard, mainly because I wanted her to just quit. In a quick interview in Houston she told us, ?To be the first woman to qualify for the Olympics is everything to me. People say to me, ?Boxing is not who you are; it?s what you do.? But to me, it?s who I am. I?ve never felt this good in my entire life, ever.? The road to qualifying wasn?t straightforward, though. The announcement that women?s boxing would be included in the London games also included the news that four weight classes would be combined. Rudy explained, ?At the time that they announced the 112 flyweight class, the weight classes that were going to merge into 112 were 106, 110, 114, and 119. Those four weight classes had to compete at 112.? Until the International Olympic announcement, Marlen had fought in the 106-pound weight class. ?I had to gain weight,? Marlen told us. ?In 2010 I started competing at the 112 Olympic weight class and figuring out who was gonna make it to the games. I was fighting girls down from weighing 119. It was intense. ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) ? The former neighborhood watch volunteer who killed Trayvon Martin told his wife to buy bulletproof vests for them and for his attorney, according to jailhouse calls released Monday.

"As uncomfortable as it is, I want you wearing one," George Zimmerman told his wife. Zimmerman was wearing a bulletproof vest when he left jail after posting bond. His attorney, Mark O'Mara, has reported receiving threats.

The calls, released by prosecutors, also detail how Zimmerman instructed his wife to transfer money from bank accounts and could play a crucial role in his second bond hearing next week.

Zimmerman was released on $150,000 bond in April, several days after the calls took place. At his bond hearing, his wife, Shellie, testified that she didn't know how much money had been raised from a website created for his legal defense. She also testified that they had limited funds because she was in school full time and Zimmerman wasn't working.

Prosecutors say the calls show George and Shellie Zimmerman knew that roughly $135,000 had been raised by the site.

Shellie Zimmerman was arrested last week on a charge of making a false statement. George Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty, claiming self-defense during the confrontation with the 17-year-old teen in a gated community in Sanford, Fla. The case sparked protests across the country when George Zimmerman wasn't arrested at first and led to nationwide debate over race and self-defense laws.

In one call, Zimmerman tells his wife and sister how to change a computer password at a credit union so they can move funds around.

In another call, Shellie Zimmerman said that money raised from the website was also being used to pay off bills. The couple also talked about how they would whisk Zimmerman away from the Seminole County Jail once he was released in April, and discussed using a rental car to drive to a hotel parking garage. There, they would change into another rental car to throw off anybody who tried to follow him.

Shellie Zimmerman told her husband that the website had crashed because of supporters leaving words of support, as well as donations.

"Wow, that is awesome," Zimmerman said. "Those people need to start vocalizing themselves."

Prosecutors originally had planned to release 151 of Zimmerman's jailhouse calls, but O'Mara objected. A hearing over their release is set at the same time as Zimmerman's bond hearing next week.

"It is our contention that the calls are not only irrelevant to the charges against Mr. Zimmerman, but they could jeopardize friends and family of Mr. Zimmerman who are unrelated to the case," O'Mara said on a website for Zimmerman's legal defense.

You've got to know when to hold them. And know when to fold them. That's the gospel according to Kenny Rogers, the Grammy and Country Music Award-winning singer who outlined this strategy in one of his most famous hits, "The Gambler."

Well, Rogers is still out on tour, racking up good reviews for his latest appearances, but his latest real estate move would definitely have to fall in the "Fold 'Em" category.

On June 26, the stunning Athens, Georgia-area home designed and built in 2009 by Rogers on 150 acres of wooded property will go up for an absolute auction.

That means there is no reserve necessary to bid on the 5-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom house at 7356 Brockton Road, which is about 10 minutes outside of Athens. All it takes is a $100,000 certified check to register for your chance to buy the stunningly elegant spread.

Rogers first listed the 5,681-square-foot, Polynesian-inspired home for $3.5 million in January 2012, and reduced the price to $2.85 million in April. By mid-May, however, Rogers decided to take another tactic, enlisting an auction company to take over the sale ? an increasingly more common practice for some high-end properties for which it is difficult to establish market value.

Rogers, who has built and sold other luxury estates, including another massive resort-like estate in the Athens area, says this Georgia special "one of a kind." Must be, since it has its own Kenny Rogers Auction website that indicates previews of the property begin on June 22.
